Bantul Officials Crack Down on Alleged Prostitution Disguised as Massage Parlors and Salons
BANTUL, Indonesia — Bantul Public Order Agency (Satpol PP) has uncovered alleged prostitution activities operating under the guise of massage parlors and beauty salons in the Ring Road Selatan area.
The agency said the findings were made during a field inspection. Officers reportedly found a female therapist and a male customer inside a private room with the door locked from the inside, raising suspicions of inappropriate activities.
Head of Bantul Satpol PP, Jati Bayu Broto, said authorities had summoned the management of the establishment and issued a stern warning.
Officials have also urged massage parlors and salon operators across Bantul to comply with licensing regulations and ensure their businesses operate according to local rules.
Businesses have been advised to improve the skills and professionalism of their therapists and avoid providing rooms that are completely closed off, particularly where such facilities could potentially be misused.
Public Reaction
The enforcement action has also sparked discussion among social media users. Some commenters questioned the consistency of enforcement against similar businesses in other areas, while others focused on the economic difficulties faced by workers seeking to earn a living.
Some users argued that the issue should not only be viewed from the perspective of public order but also from an economic standpoint, including employment opportunities and the livelihoods of workers.
However, comments made by social media users are opinions and should not be treated as verified facts unless independently confirmed by authorities.
The Bantul government’s challenge is therefore not only to enforce regulations but also to ensure that legitimate businesses can continue operating while maintaining public order and providing safe employment opportunities.
The authorities’ latest action serves as a reminder to business owners that compliance with licensing requirements and local regulations remains essential.
