Design, Screen and Ergonomics

Design POCO X4 Pro 5G

At first glance, there is nothing particularly original about the design of the smartphone. The POCO X4 Pro has a rather classic look, with its plastic chassis and polycarbonate back. The set is perfectly proportioned and complies with current standards.

At the back, there is an imposing photo block, which takes up a whole third of the smartphone and this in relief. So don’t expect to lay your phone flat on a table or go unnoticed with this bold choice, which could displease more than one.

Ergonomics POCO X4 Pro 5G

At the first grip, the POCO X4 Pro 5G is rough from the formwork. Indeed, we cannot say that the brand is thin and, even if we get used to it rather quickly. The POCO X4 Pro is heavy and rather thick, a small negative point at a time when devices advocate thinness and lightness. However, it gives us an impression of robustness and offers us a solid grip.

In its design, the POCO X4 Pro has an intuitive configuration, with the volume and lock buttons (+ fingerprint scanner) on the right edge, the SIM/SD card port and the USB-C port on the right side. bottom, and finally the 3.5 mm Jack port on the top. There are also two speakers and two microphones, located on the top and bottom of the smartphone.

Screen POCO X4 Pro 5G

At the screen level, the POCO X4 Pro 5G has a 6.67-inch AMOLED DotDisplay panel. This broadcasts an image in FHD + resolution (2400 × 1080), which benefits from a very satisfactory refresh rate of 120 Hz. Optimal both for daily tasks and for certain more demanding activities (streaming, games, etc.).

Only downside, the colors are not at their best and everything seems to be duller than on other similar smartphones. It is nevertheless subtle enough that it does not disturb the user experience.

Performance, Software and Autonomy

Inside, there is a 5000 mAh battery, as well as a Qualcomm Snapdragon 695 chip to run everything properly, without doing miracles. This chip has at least the advantage of offering 5G connectivity. Which makes the smartphone one of the most affordable alternatives on the market.

It gets a fairly low score in the benchmark to which we submitted it, but that’s quite predictable for a smartphone of this range. In use, we never had a problem running everything we wanted without noticeable overheating or slowing down.

Battery Spec

We will even notice that he excels in one area in particular, we have named autonomy. With standard use (about 5 hours of screen time per day), it easily lasted two days without needing to recharge it in the meantime.

Of course, the autonomy is also evaluated in the long term, but for a new smartphone it is strong. The 67W fast charge provided allows you to bring the POCO X4 Pro back to life in no time.

Software UI

Like all POCO smartphones, the X4 Pro 5G runs Android, and more specifically Android 12 here. It also uses the in-house MIUI 13 for POCO overlay, which is in every way similar to that used on smartphones from Xiaomi, among others. Those who are used to Samsung’s Android smartphones, to name just one, will need a little getting used to.

Indeed, in its organization, MIUI has an interface closer to iOS devices than to Android devices. Notifications are, for example, only available by sliding your finger from the left side of the screen. The right side being reserved for certain quick settings such as Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, brightness, etc.

Once you get used to it, everything is pleasant on a daily basis, although we regret the absence of the new Android controls. The POCO X4 Pro still has a bar at the bottom of the screen that you use to navigate the smartphone. Which is unattractive but also less practical than the swipe controls.

Photo and Video

Finally on the back of the smartphone, POCO plays its best card. For the very first time on a phone of the brand, there is a main sensor of 108 MP for precision with small onions. It is associated with an ultra wide angle of 8 MP and a macro lens of 2 MP. The use of which remains anecdotal for a smartphone of this range. It also benefits from a 16 MP front sensor.

In terms of the video part as well as the audio part, the specs are rather standard. You can film up to Ultra HD on the back and in Full HD on the front. The two microphones, as well as the double speaker, allow you to obtain clear and powerful sound.

Overall, the camera performance is beyond what one would have hoped for for this price. POCO makes efforts on the photo and it shows. We don’t end up with premium quality shots.

But it can at least compete with a good number of its competitors located in the mid-range. At 100 euros more expensive than what the brand offers us with the POCO X4 Pro 5G. But, better than words, here are some images to illustrate our words.

Price and availabilit

The Poco X4 Pro has been available for sale since February 28 at a price of €299 in the 6 GB RAM and 128 GB storage version, and €349 in the 8 GB RAM and 256 GB storage version.
