  • Logitech Ergo M575 wireless mouse with trackball

    Logitech Ergo M575

Logitech Ergo M575 : a wireless mouse with trackball and up to two years of battery life

The Logitech Ergo M575 mouse doesn’t need to be moved to move the cursor, it all happens under your thumb. It has an optical sensor and therefore a very long battery life of up to two years. It is sold for 50 euros.

Logitech has offered trackball mice for years. It is a large ball allowing you to move the cursor, without having to maneuver the mouse. Convenient for offices with limited space.

“ Your hand and arm stay relaxed because you don’t have to move your arm to move the slider, ” says the manufacturer . Its angled design helps keep “ the fingers in a more natural position ,” he adds. Nothing new here, several mice are already available in the Ergo range.

    Logitech Ergo M575

Optical sensor, five buttons, Bluetooth and Unifying

The M575 has five buttons, three of which are programmable, and a thumbwheel. It uses an optical sensor with a “nominal” resolution of 400 dpi and “maximum” resolution of 2000 dpi. This is an important difference with the M570 trackball which used a laser sensor which allows it to be more energy efficient.

Of course, the trackball ball can be removed for cleaning. The set connects to the computer via Bluetooth or using the Unifying USB receiver included in the bundle. The manufacturer announces ” up to two years of autonomy with a single AA battery ” if you use Unifying technology, against twenty months in Bluetooth.

In practice, this will obviously depend on your use.

Recycled plastic, available for 50 euros
The manufacturer highlights the fact that ” the plastic components of ERGO M575 are made from post-consumer recycled plastic (50% in Graphite shade and 21% in Off-white) “.

The packaging paper is “ made from wood from FSC certified forests ”. Logitech offers its new Ergo M575 mouse for 50 euros , which places it well below other models equipped with a trackball … at least officially. Because if the M570 is 90 euros on the Logitech site, it is found at 44 euros.

  • Logitech G305 Best wired gaming mouse

    Logitech G305

Pro Gaming freed from wires thanks to the Hero sensor

Very inspired by Logitech Pro Gaming , the G305 loses its thread and goes wireless. In order not to increase the price, the Swiss manufacturer has removed the backlighting and thus made it the cheapest of its “Lightspeed” mice.

Did she lose anything else in the process? This is what we will see.

    Ergonomics

At a time when mouse designs and materials are increasingly sophisticated, the G305 shows a bit with its shell made entirely of grainy black plastic.

If this material does not offer the comfort of a soft plastic ( soft-touch type. For example) and rubbery inserts that we find more and more often on the edges, it has the merit of being very resistant and not to get dirty too quickly.

Shape and materials are in any case the same as for the Logitech Pro Gaming and G203 Prodigy. The only difference is that the G305 does without the backlighting of the logo and the luminous border, so as to avoid wasting energy, since it is a wireless mouse.

    Design, Material And Handling

At a time when mouse designs and materials are increasingly sophisticated, the G305 shows a bit with its shell made entirely of grainy black plastic.

    Material

If this material does not offer the comfort of a soft plastic (soft-touch type, for example) and rubbery inserts that we find more and more often on the edges, it has the merit of being very resistant and not to get dirty too quickly.

Shape and materials are in any case the same as for the Logitech Pro Gaming and G203 Prodigy. The only difference is that the G305 does without the backlighting of the logo and the luminous border, so as to avoid wasting energy, since it is a wireless mouse.

The small size of this G305 (116.6 x 62.2 x 38.2 mm) and its edges inclined inwards always ensure a good grip and we do not feel the need for non-slip inserts too much. The plastic used nevertheless remains a little slippery, especially with sweaty hands, which can make rapid movements and lifting sometimes a little tricky, especially since this model is a little heavier than the corded versions.

Indeed, the transition to a wireless link involves the use of an accumulator.

    Logitech G305 image

    Wight for G305

Logitech has managed to limit the weight gain of its G305 to just 13.5 g. A fine job of lightening the mouse itself, therefore, allowing it not to exceed 100 g – unless you store the USB nano-receiver there, which is normally only done during transport. Our scale thus displays 98.5 g,

battery included, which is very reasonable. Sliding does not suffer from it. The 5 PTFE pads do their job well and allow fairly smooth and quiet movements.

    Design for G305

The ambidextrous shape of the G305 is also appreciable, although we can only regret the absence of buttons on the right edge (only present on the left edge), which rather intended this mouse for right-handed people.

Anyway, users with small hands will be delighted with such a template. The compactness of the mouse nevertheless invites more to a grip with fingertips or claw, allowing a certain nervousness. The grip comfort is not bad either, but in the same way as for a nomadic mouse, this is not the strong point of the G305.

We are indeed in the presence of a mouse designed for gaming and this can be seen right down to the buttons, independent of the shell and associated with reactive switches. The main buttons still take advantage of the tension mechanism, now widely used in Logitech G-series mice.

    Buttons for G305

As on the G203, the main switches are signed Omron and guaranteed for 10 million activation. “Only”, are we tempted to write, since those of the Pro Gaming double this number, and more and more mice integrate switches guaranteed on 50 million activations. Strategy game players and other Moba may aim for a little more endurance, for safety.

On the side of the two edge buttons, the click is also of good quality, the buttons showing quite lively under the thumb. The same goes for that of the wheel, despite the use of a “tact switch” type switch, in principle less enduring. The last button is located above the dial and is used by default to change the sensitivity of the sensor on the fly. Like the 5 others, its function can be changed in the mouse software (see box).

The dial is convincing. We appreciate its well marked notches, which do not affect the smoothness of the scrolling. On the other hand, it is necessary to make a cross on the side switches, but these would have weighed down the mouse and are less useful for the game.

    Battery for G305

Logitech has here opted for a simple AA / LR6 battery, which very simply takes place under the top cover.

According to Logitech, the G305 runs up to 250 hours on a single AA battery, equivalent to about 9 months of moderate use. And in fact, despite a few weeks of testing, we still have not reached the critical threshold of 15% energy, below which a low battery indicator is triggered.

We would certainly have preferred a rechargeable battery in USB directly via the mouse, but this would undoubtedly be felt on the sale price. The autonomy with a single battery being quite high, that does not bother us too much.

    Precision for G305

Logitech has developed a specific sensor for its wireless mice: the Hero (for “High Efficiency Rated Optical”), most recently used in the Logitech G603 Lightspeed mouse.

Announced as 10 times more efficient than other equivalent sensors, it is nonetheless swift and supports accelerations of up to 40 g as well as speeds of up to 10.16 m / s.

Characteristics equivalent to those of the PMW3366 sensor signed PixArt which equips many mice, including the Pro Gaming, the G502, the G900.

    Performance for G305

Unsurprisingly, the performances are there. We do not deplore any setback or sign of acceleration whatsoever which could affect the precision. The mouse follows the most sudden movements and is therefore perfectly suited to low-sensitivity gaming, its small size predestining it for such use.

However, gamers who appreciate high sensitivities need not worry, the sensitivity can be adjusted in steps of 50 dpi up to 12,000 dpi. A very high value which, let us remember, is not really exploitable at the present time.

Indeed, at this maximum sensitivity, a movement of less than a centimeter is sufficient to cover the entire width of an Ultra HD screen; in other words, goodbye to precision.

    Sensor for G305

Optical sensor requires, surface recognition is a little more capricious than with a laser sensor and you have to forget glass desks or other shiny or too reflective surfaces if you want to do without a mouse pad.

Nevertheless, we observe a good behavior of the sensor on rather heterogeneous coatings and our wooden desks and slightly satin did not pose any problem.

However, we recommend a good mouse pad to ensure the best possible glide, optimal precision and the preservation of the skates.

    Wireless for G305

Regarding the wireless link, same story as for the G603 and other Logitech mice since the G900. The Swiss manufacturer has a perfect command of its subject and the latency is almost as low wired as wireless.

No particular energy saving here, it is always a question of an exchange frequency of 1000 Hz (1 ms) with the computer. Again, despite our attempts, no way to detect cuts or other weakness in wireless, it’s as good as with a Logitech Pro Gaming.

It would not be the same in Bluetooth, and this is why the mouse works only with its small radio receiver which is plugged into a USB port of the computer.

    Software Assistant

Common with all Logitech G video game peripherals, the Video Game Assistant software makes it easy to change the G305’s settings. The settings are quite limited however. It is necessary to be satisfied with the change of function of the buttons and the basic settings of the sensor.

Up to 5 steps can be defined and the exchange frequency with the computer can be reduced if one wishes to preserve the CPU occupation on a computer with a low processor. Finally, a power supply setting is available, if one wishes to preserve the autonomy in the event of use in pure office automation and not in game, for example.

The settings can be saved in the memory of the mouse itself, but the management of profiles is done only by saving on the computer.

  • Logitech M187 Efficient wireless mouse, Software

    Logitech M187

    Efficient mouse wireless?

The Logitech M187 is a small wireless mouse with an optical sensor. It is primarily intended for laptops and sold from 15 euros.

    Ergonomics

All dressed in plastic (matt on the sides and shiny on the top), the M187 offers hoods in different colors (blue, black, red). Be careful, if you choose the black model, it easily retains fingerprints. On the red model, received for testing, the problem seems minimal as you have to stick your eye to the mouse to see the traces of the mimines.

    Design M187

    M187 length

As for size and grip, no surprise, it is too small (8 cm) to support the wrist – even if it is quite logical for a pocket mouse – and the glide, if it remains soft, is not really silent. Logitech would do well to review the skates.

With the AA battery in place, the mouse weighs 51 grams, which goes unnoticed in a backpack or satchel.

    logitech 187

    M187 slice above

The M187 only offers the traditional left and right buttons and the wheel button. It is therefore impossible to adapt the sensitivity of this mini-mouse (1000 dpi) on the fly or to deport a function under the thumb (no button here). Like the HP X4000, its functions are similar to the ball mice of yesteryear.

Small compensation, the simple and symmetrical shape is perfectly ambidextrous.

    Precision

The M187 is suitable for Internet browsing and all office automation that does not require millimeter cursor placements. Its frequency of 125 Hz does not allow it to satisfy a very demanding public (graphic designers, etc.); it does not communicate its position frequently enough to the computer.

A mouse for gamers requires a sensor that can hold up to a movement speed of 3 meters per second.

The same goes for the movement speed, which reaches a maximum of 1.3 m / s; it’s too slow for gamers, especially for FPS enthusiasts (Call of Duty, Half Life) who need to be able to turn around in the blink of an eye. For other types of games, it is already much less of a problem.

    Connection

The small size of the wireless USB connector allows it to be plugged into the computer when it is moved and reduces the risk of loss or tearing. When moving the mouse without the notebook, it is possible to store this connector inside the mouse.

    STRONG POINTS

    Space-saving.
    Suitable for office use.
Nothing to adjust, you plug in, it works.
    Ambidextrous.

    WEAK POINTS

Unsuitable for games that require a minimum of speed and precision.
    Few buttons.
    Non-disengageable wheel.

    CONCLUSION

The Logitech M187 does not shine with its features. However, this small wireless notebook mouse fulfills its role: to offer a space-saving and inexpensive alternative to the touchpad.
