Review of the Asus TUF Gaming VG279QM, an almost perfect 27-inch screen for video games
We’ve been looking for a 27-inch, Full HD or 1440p gaming monitor for several months. With strict criteria in mind, namely that its price does not exceed $ 500 USD and that its panel is refreshed to more than 144 Hz. Not easy to find.
Especially since we were looking for a candidate whose height can be adjusted, rotatable in all directions and has round feet. Or rectangular at worst. Indeed, the screen feet in Y, it’s beautiful, it’s modern, but it takes up too much space on the desk.
After hours of research, the Asus TUF Gaming VG279QM came to us as the right choice. On paper, anyway. Its base is rectangular and it costs between 410 and 440 euros depending on the brand. It also offers a whole set of ergonomic settings and it is compatible with G-Sync, Free-Sync, A-Sync .
Supports ELMB and LFC technology
Better yet, This VG279 supports ELMB and LFC technology (see sidebar). Its matte IPS panel is refreshed to 240Hz base and can be pushed to 280Hz via the display menu as needed. It’s even HDR 400 compatible . Wow! Finally, it is thin-rimmed and does not have LEDs everywhere unlike some gaming monitors. So much the better!
This screen can be assembled in 2 minutes. You take it out of the box, you screw the base to the foot with t
he hand screw and voila, it is ready to take service.
The presence of ELMB, LFC and the absence of PWM are appreciated
PWM or Pulse Width Modulation
This is a technology dedicated to adjusting the brightness of the panel and which is a vector of flickering. The Asus display doesn’t have one, and that’s good news for sensitive people.
And even for others, the eyes do not sting and do not cry, even after hours in front of the slab.
ELMB or Extreme Low Motion Blur : a processor hidden in the screen analyzes the scanning of the backlight and quickly turns it off, causing “black images” to be inserted between the images generated by the graphics card to maintain the impression of fluidity display.
LFC or Low Framerate Compensation
This process multiplies the display time of the images on the screen (x2, x3, x4) in order to maintain an artificially high refresh rate when the G-Sync and the FreeSync drop below a certain level for maintain perfect fluidity in all circumstances.
for example: G-Sync is activated on the screen and suddenly in a game the frame rate per second drops to 25 fps. Normally, the screen should then lower its speed to 25 Hz. As it is technically limited to 53 Hz, slowdowns or tearing are likely to occur.
To avoid this, the LFC kicks in and makes the electronics believe that it is not 25 images but many more, in any case enough to cross the technical limit of the panel and force it to go up at a higher speed, which thus limits visual disturbances.
Settings Asus TUF Gaming VG279QM
Once the VG279QM is positioned on the desk, the cables are passed through the hole provided for this purpose at the base of the stand, removing the small plastic hatch and repositioning it afterwards. Don’t worry, there’s room for three worry-free video cables.
Luckily, the VG279QM offers three video inputs (2 x HDMI 2.0 and 1 x DisplayPort 1.4) and a headphone output, all facing down. Good !
USB Port
There is no USB plug and honestly we don’t find that to be a big deal. Some people probably like plugging keys or webcams into their screens. This is not our case.
Reaching out to the side to insert a USB device into the front of our tower is still feasible. If this is important for you, the 279QM does not have one at all, so you will have to turn to one of the models that we will mention below (from LG or Samsung).
Power Consumption
This 27 inch is fed by an external block, small in size but in the classic format (i.e. a wire, followed by the block, then again a wire). Sacrilege! Given the consumption of the screen – 35 watts maximum – Asus could still have made the effort to design a power supply like smartphone charger.
However, using an external block has the advantage of allowing an easier and faster change in the event of a breakdown.
Adjusted Position
Everything is plugged in, it’s time to adjust the height, tilt and position of the slab. And there it is … the foot. The slab rises and falls enough to end up either flush with the desk or more than 13 cm above the top.
The tilt angle is large enough to find the correct position. And if you want to use it vertically rather than horizontally, you can. The slab rotates 90 °. The connectors are then turned to the left.
Finally, the pivot present at the base of the base allows the foot and the screen to be rotated together. Nothing to say, it’s perfect.
Menu & Navigation Asus TUF Gaming VG279QM
After the physical adjustments, we move on to the software settings. It is accessed through a small joystick hidden behind, to the right of the screen, where the power button is also located. We quickly navigate the menus.
There are all the usual parameters (brightness, contrast, etc.) but also preprogrammed profiles which bear the name of types of games (strategy, race, FPS) or color adjustment (sRGB).
Among the options dedicated to gaming, there is the GamePlus to display times, sights and other elements superimposed on the screen but also the Shadow Boost which brightens to the extreme the dark shades.
Navigation
First-person shooters will appreciate being able to make the shadows less dark to flush out potential “wild camping” enthusiasts. Also note the presence of a Vivid function which allows you to force the contours of certain objects with less success (see above, Vivid at 0 on the left, at 100 on the right).
However, we have two complaints against the OSD. The first, it is impossible to configure the passage from one video input to another on one of the two shortcut buttons at the back. It is therefore impossible to switch from one entrance to another in the blink of an eye.
The second criticism relates to the lack of gamma (white level) adjustment in the menu regardless of the profile. It is rare enough to be noted and surprised. A smooth transition to approach the results of the measurements.
More contrasted, the 27-inch slab was full
The TUF Gaming VG279QM had the right to its ritual passage under the probe of the lab and it offers us a good performance overall but it is not full success.
We tested the screen for the first time in Landscape mode , the default profile when it came out of the box. We simply printed it our classic settings for measurements and this is what it looks like.
Brightness
Maximum and peak average brightness was measured at 440 cd / m 2 and 441 cd / m. The maximum average contrast ratio was raised to 1143: 1. Color fidelity drops to 2.3 (Delta E sRGB) or 3.04 (Delta E DCI-P3) and gamma peaks at 2.18. Let’s not forget a crucial measurement for gaming, the response time (black / white) is 9 ms.
We change mode to see! With the FPS profile , always calibrated with our settings, the situation changes drastically. Especially in terms of brightness: 244 cd / m 2 maximum average and 278 cd / m 2 peak. The contrast ratio is also down, 1093: 1.
What these numbers tell us:
The brightness is really good and the setting offers great responsiveness in the OSD menu of the screen so that it can be adjusted very easily.
The contrast ratio is not very good. A classic on IPS but it is important to underline it. According to our rating scale, he does not obtain the average (3/10).
The homogeneity of the panel is relatively good, even if we note that some areas are less well backlit than others.
The gamma : the grays are a little imprecise at times – plugged as we say. But the gamma level has the merit of being constant throughout the test
The colorimetry is accurate, almost impeccable. The delta E is close to 2 (the closer to 0 the better), a very good point for a gaming screen … which can also be used to edit photos or create graphic content.
The response time is good for IPS, not known to be the most responsive technology out there.
We did not observe any annoying ghosting or ghosting effects except when overclocking the panel is pushed too far. There, it is reverse ghosting which appears and which can disturb the most sensitive pupils.
We did not notice any clouding either (white spots clearly visible on a black screen) despite the perfectible homogeneity of the panel. No light leaks at the frame level either: Asus has almost everything.
Unexpected duels
Competition in the 27-inch market is fierce. Even fierce. We have therefore drawn on the latest models received at the editorial office and which seem to us the most able to compete in terms of price and / or technical sheets with the Asus TUF VG279QM.
We have chosen two: the Samsung C27RG50FQU at first. Very affordable but which clearly does not compare in terms of ergonomics.
While Logitech announced in 2013 the end of production of gaming peripherals for consoles. Here it is still back in the race with a new steering wheel compatible with PS3, PS4 and PC (Windows). Logically called G29, it takes the essentials of the G27 and adds a few options.
Logitech did not start from scratch to design its new steering wheel. It must be said that he already had a good basis with his G27 , widely tested on PS3 and PC and generally satisfactory.
Although the latter has taken a little bit of old since the arrival of the T500 RS from Thrustmaster (then its successors T300 RS and TX ) and the rise of the more discreet Fanatec.
Unsurprisingly, we therefore find a flywheel base identical to that of the G27. Comprising two motors and a helical gear drive. Still no brushless motor as on the last generations of Thrustmaster (T300 RS, TX) and Fanatec (ClubSport Wheel Base), Logitech having preferred to keep its original technology.
A choice which is not without consequences, as we will see during the practical tests. On the other hand, the rotation detection is always done on 900 ° with a Hall effect sensor.(magnetic field), for more precision and better longevity.
Logitech Made Change
Finally, a small selector located on the top allows you to choose between the PS3 and PS4 mode. No mention of any PC mode on the other hand, which may be surprising, especially since the manual is reduced to a few explanatory diagrams.
For more information, Logitech invites us to consult a PDF document on the web page dedicated to the G29 ; no installation CD-ROM, no real manual in the box too bad.
The changes therefore mainly concern the wheel, a sort of mix between that of the logitech G27 and that of the Driving Force GT.
From the first, we find the central core with three aluminum branches and leather finish, as well as the LED indicator of the engine speed; of the second the panoply of typically Play Station buttons (cross, square, circle, triangle, L1, R1, L2, R2, Home and now the Share and Option of the PS4 which replace the Select and Start of the PS3) in addition to a directional cross, +/- buttons and a wheel with central button.
The finish is generally good, with good quality plastics and serious assemblies, without play.
What can be done G29?
The leather finish is still present all around the steering wheel, which will delight those allergic to plastic and rubber textures. On the other hand, the finish of the seams remains relatively coarse and we still feel the roughness a lot.
Which may put off some of them, Regarding the fixation, no change there either, and that’s good. The system based on two plastic hooks which clamp the support in a vice is still proving convincing.
No tool needed, just tighten firmly anyway the two plastic screws on the top to ensure a good hold. You can easily fix the steering wheel on a table or desk. Dedicated racing supports (Playseat, Rseat, etc.) benefit from two threads located under the base, which provide more secure attachment to the product.
Operation for G29
Since the kinship with the G27 is not denied, we also find the same aluminum paddles for gear changes, which follow the steering wheel in its rotation. Of good size, they perform their function well and produce a small audible click when actuated.
Too bad that one cannot choose between fixed and mobile paddles, since there are two schools on this subject and many players prefer that the paddles remain in the same position, so as not to confuse them beyond one complete turn of the steering wheel (900 ° = 2.5 turns, i.e. 1.25 turns in each direction). The wheel is also not interchangeable.
Far absent from the G29, the gear lever becomes optional (59 €). If it has not really improved in quality it even loses the buttons and the directional cross of the model supplied with the G27, we find this absence difficult to accept given the price positioning of the steering wheel when it comes out (€ 399 ).
Despite its shortcomings (lack of precision, great flexibility), it had the merit of existing to offer an alternative to changing gears. Especially with a three-pedal crankset, its presence was amply justified. Therefore, don’t expect to take advantage of a rally handbrake lever either. Knowing that the optional lever is not designed for this use anyway.
A still convincing crankset
Unlike Thrustmaster, who chose to offer their T300 RS with a very basic two-pedal crankset, in order to reduce costs. Leaving the player the choice to buy a more advanced model ( T3PA or T3PA-PRO), Logitech continues to offer a relatively advanced crankset, with three metal pedals, each of different hardness.
The accelerator pedal is thus the most flexible and is positioned behind the other pedals, closer to the driver. The latter are a little wider and identical in shape, but the brake pedal has a shorter stroke and a much greater resistance due to a slightly firmer spring and especially a rubber part positioned in stop – like on the optional Thrustmaster cranksets mentioned above.
No hardness or stroke adjustment is available. On the other hand, we are delighted to be able to adjust the spacing between the pedals, since the spacing between the brake pedals and
Quite heavy, the crank has rubber pads for good support on smooth surfaces. As well as a bar adorned with spikes for good grip on carpet. The lucky owners of a racing seat will also appreciate being able to fix it thanks to the screw threads provided for this purpose.
Racing on console and PC
In order to evaluate the performance of this G29, we carried out several tests on console and PC. The latest from Logitech has therefore faced its main competitor, the T300 RS, also officially compatible with the PS3 and PS4. We also brought out our antique G25, admittedly a little less developed than a G27, but still valiant despite its age.
On PS3, no need to hope for an update of existing games or the console to support the wheel. The G29 is still recognized without problem, but strangely not as a G25 / G27. Alas, it behaves less well than the latter in Gran Turismo 5 and 6, the effects appearing less subtle.
For games that do not provide a dedicated steering wheel profile. The G29 is also unusable, since it is not recognized as a gamepad by the console. Which would have enabled emulation. However, this is not a big loss. Since the few games concerned are not very interesting to play behind the wheel anyway.
The precision
The effects are here clearly marked and we can feel the cars going into understeer. Thanks to a progressive force which makes it possible to feel the road and to avoid uncontrolled skids.
The precision is also very good, allowing millimeter trajectories. If the force feedback generally reflects the different effects of the game well. It is nevertheless a little drier and less flexible than that offered by a T300 RS, which benefits from its brushless motor and a belt drive.
The sensations are therefore a little less faithful on the G29. A little more abrupt, but fans of simulation should nevertheless find their account. In fact, the Logitech steering wheel is largely made up for with its crankset. Which is much more pleasant to use than the basic model supplied by default with the T300 RS.
The braking
The braking dosage is thus easier and the accelerator offers satisfactory precision. Thrustmaster’s flywheel therefore needs a better quality crankset to express its superiority.
Same story in a more arcade game like DriveClub, in which the G29 shows great dynamism. Without however adding the smoothness of a T300 RS or the brutal power of a T500 RS. The stability of the G29 crankset is on the other hand an asset in this game where trapper braking is legion.
No miracle, however, with regard to driving sensations at the wheel in general. The game gives a certain inertia to the vehicles and makes driving a little less incisive than in a real simulation. It is nevertheless very pleasant to play in this title behind the wheel. Finally, to end with the PC experience, we appreciate the driver allowing the creation of a profile with configuration of each key.
Unsurprisingly, Project CARS is also perfectly compatible here, as is Assetto Corsa. The latter confirms our impressions on PS4, with a precise steering wheel, but less thin and flexible in its effects than the T300 RS.
STRONG POINTS
Convincing three-pedal crankset.
Quite powerful force feedback.
Compatible with PS3, PS4 and PC.
Simple and efficient fixing system.
WEAK POINTS
Sometimes a little dry backlash.
Leather finish seams.
Movable pallets, no mechanism to make them fixed.
Gear lever now optional.
CONCLUSION
A worthy successor to the G27, the G29 evolves smoothly and always offers good sensations. It does face stiffer competition, however, as Thrustmaster’s T300 RS has been there and is slightly more convincing when it comes to the steering wheel itself.
Logitech makes up for it without difficulty, however, with its good three-pedal crankset. Although it does not match that of the T500 RS (T3PA-PRO). This unfortunately translates into a high price, even though the gear lever is now optional.
The Dual Action Gamepad is a more advanced version of the Precision Gamepad. It does not have the latter’s translucent dress but a midnight blue shell. On the other hand, it is equipped with two Chinese hats, which represents a significant advantage. Their coating is quite specific since it is soft and very adherent, which allows them to hold them well under the thumb.
The Dual Action Gamepad also has two buttons in the middle, four on the right side and four triggers. The joypad comes with Logitech profiler software. This one, as soon as the device is installed, scans your PC to find the games for which it has a configuration or not.
On our test PC, the software found five of the seven games present and offered two profiles already defined. Note that he found neither GTA Vice City nor FIFA 2005.
It scans the PC and automatically recognizes compatible games. In use, the Dual Action Gamepad is just as effective as its little brother Precision Gamepad. We just note that its directional pad, a little “buried” in the hull requires a little time to adapt before not overflowing.
Its surface is indeed very smooth. Chinese hats are effective and their length, although very soft, does not lack precision. The four buttons are also a bit soft, but their positioning makes them easy and intuitive to find. Regarding ergonomics, no worries, the pad fits well in the hands and no early fatigue is felt.
I am showing the experiences of several people who have used this gamepad.
Very Good Controller Very good controller considering that I was able to get it with 30% reduction or ~ 25 €. The grip is pleasant, the sticks as well as the triggers offer good precision for car games. The multidirectional cross seems fragile at first glance but it is solid. OK buttons. On the other hand, no vibrations. ( JeanCharlesD)
Great! Very good alternative to the XBOX Pad, you can feel the quality in the materials. I tried several models in this price range (Thrustmaster) but this one far exceeds the others. I recommend ! (by MickaelK)
Excellent compromise The lower cost than the Sony or Microsoft models and the quality of its realization are important advantages. NB: the controller is recognized by Windows as a Microsoft 360 controller. (by XavierP)
Good product Delivery deadlines respected, product works correctly. (by Alexandre S.)
I love good grip, easy to handle for games. (by Wilfrid P.)
She does the Job a good controller that reminds me of our good old playstation controller.(by AlexandreC)
Works fine without more We are in 2020 and we are struggling to find the correct controllers, something that has existed for more than 40 years without any particular functional change. This controller is nothing exceptional, a copy of a playstation controller, it works, but makes too much noise when you press the buttons. I didn’t want to pay too much, otherwise I would have taken a console controller directly.(by JeromeB)
Good Controller Good PC controller for playing games like Need for speed and soccer games.(by BrunoR)
Good product Material in line with expectations.(by Jean-Sébastien P.)
excellent those who are used to console controllers will not be penalized!(by Stephane M.)
Good grip No complaints about the keys, positioning and size, I got used to it very well and it is very practical. (by Yannick C.)

If there is one manufacturer name that every gaming enthusiast should know, it is Razer ! Evolving in the high end environment, Razer prices admittedly high, but reflecting the intrinsic values of its products like the famous Blade 15 , a gaming laptop with superior technical characteristics, and that you can modulate in to some extent.
Find now the presentation as well as our full test.
Due to its popularity, the model is available in many specialty stores and even in some supermarkets. However, to save time and effort, it is in your interest to go through an online shopping platform, which will also ensure that you receive the equipment in the best conditions.
As a manufacturer evolving in this field, Razer had to offer an all in one solution, succeeding on all the essential points related to the practice of video games.
Based on hardware and software solutions such as Windows 10, Intel Core or even Nvidia GeForce Series, it not only allows use for the most demanding video games of the generation, but also all applications requiring significant resources, such as livestream , animation or even video editing.
We were talking about a solution, but we actually find an Advanced Model the first released as well as a Base Model with less advanced features, but also at a more attractive price. For both versions, however, there is a unique base.

You will have noticed: we have not detailed certain crucial points, such as storage, graphics card, processor or battery. Quite simply because it is on these points that the two variants make the difference!
The differences between Razer Blade 15 Base Model and Advanced Model. The first version, also the most sophisticated the Advanced Model lets you choose between several cards: an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060, RTX 2070 or RTX 2080 , all three of Max-Q design and incorporating Optimus technology.
On this point, the Base Model, released more recently, directly embeds the GTX 1660 Ti VR. The processor also varies in newer versions, so the base model comes with an Intel iRNUM i7 (6-core) while the Advanced Model comes with an i7 Core Family. Note that if both are boosted by 16Gb RAM , the Base Model only allows an extension up to 32Gb, where the Advanced allows double, at 64Gb.
Storage & battery
On the storage side, several solutions are available to you within the two variants: you can opt for a configuration including an SSD and an HHD, of 128/256 and 1TB / 2TB depending on the configurations. You can also go for a blank slot for the HDD and focus on the SSD alone, pushing up to a 512GB SSD.
Regarding the screen, the Advanced Model offers you the choice of upgrading for a higher refresh rate, at 144Hz against 60Hz for the base model. Customization options are also enhanced on the advanced model, which allows you to set the backlighting key by key where the basic model is single zone.
The power of the battery increases consecutively in order to compensate for the increase in resources, rising to 80Wh against 65Wh for the base model, although this does not change the use, the maximum autonomy being always set at 6h.
Summary of our opinion on the Razer Blade 15
Aesthetic in presentation, formidable in use the Blade 15 dazzles us with its performance. If it compensates for its performance by heat spreading over the entire chassis, it remains high end, deploying an obvious quality of construction, perfect by elaborate finishes.
Its attractive thin edges leave more room for the action, which you admire thanks to a formidable full HD touch screen. To return to the aestheticism of the product, the design of the Razer Blade 15 strongly reminds us of a Macbook Pro, which is a compliment given the importance of this point for the Apple brand.
We love
Durable and solid construction; aluminum frame
The high-resolution screen with perfect colorimetry
CPU and GPU performance
Storage solutions
Autonomy, interesting for a varied use
Its perfect finishes and undeniable aesthetic qualities
We like less
The average quality of the speakers
Default performance of the processor to calibrate
Significant heating that affects the entire chassis

Now let’s go into the details of our test, point by point. Note that we are based on the basic version the Model Base but that we also have a word for the advanced model, performance side, when it is relevant.
Frame and screen
This is the point where Razer surprises us the most: the aluminum alloy and CNC chassis deploys tremendous strength and displays a high end look noticeable at first glance.
We appreciate the manufacturer’s efforts to refine the computer as much as possible a true synonym of luxury by giving it slightly pronounced edges for a more generous display as well as a thickness of only 1.68cm.
And believe our experience: When the discovery of this build quality is complete, your eyes will instantly be on the screen. And what a screen! Its 15.6-inch size allows for a good balance between mobility and display, deploying a full HD 1920 x 1080 IPS resolution.
For refined colorimetry, each screen individually calibrated at the factory. Note, as indicated previously, that you can opt for a refresh at 60Hz or 144Hz.
Most
Ultra-thin edges
High quality aluminum frame
Full HD and touch screen
The lessers
Nothing to report
Aesthetics and customization
Not only is the whole thing good, but also aesthetic: the construction gives the Razer Blade a minimalist and modern look quite successful its finesse allowing it to assert itself, according to the manufacturer, as “the laptop world’s thinnest 15.6-inch gaming machine ”.
The finishes are worked and the green color emblematic of the manufacturer – covers the logo as well as the connectors and USB ports .
But obviously what you want to hear about is of course the RGB backlighting. And there, as we told you, the choice is left to you by zone or key by key. In either case, the Synapse software suite is complete and pretty well done, although we may regret a lack of intuitiveness during the first uses. It will therefore be necessary to go through tutorials or simply to rummage to manage to take it correctly in hand.

Performance
The performance of the Intel CPU and the Nvidia GPU (processor and graphics card). As a gaming PC, this is obviously where we expect it the most! The performance of the graphics card is frankly well exploited by the device, offering maximum fluidity on games with advanced graphics. In Full HD, in-game performance is very fast for RTX ranges, with high levels of graphics.
Thus, TomsHardware data reveals high fps in Ultra on games like World War Z or GTA 5 (with x8 anti-aliasing ). Although for the latter, the fps drop slightly below 60 for the RTX 2060. The performances remain all the same similar, since one notes on average 55-62fps, from the 2060 to the 2080.
In 4K, for the same game, it will be preferable to lower the anti-aliasing to 2x while reducing the quality of the graphics to “high”. With this configuration, the fps are preserved around 55 to 66fps, again from 2060 to 2080. On the other hand, on a game like Far Cry 5, you will have to be content with normal graphics for FPS limited to 45-55fps. A point on which the Radeon VII is doing better.
Inside GTX 1660
If you are going to look to the GTX 1660 Ti for the Base Model, expect great performance in Full HD too. With around 70fps for The Witcher 3, Far Cry 5 and Battlefield V in Ultra, over 110fps for Wolfenstein II.
In Ultra and x8 antialiasing, and even a solid 53fps for GTA in “very high” graphics quality and x4 antialiasing. In 2560 × 1440, obviously, performance drops, but remains very good for games like Battlefield V in ultra (nearly 50fps), Far Cry 5 in Ultra and HD textures (54fps) or The Witcher 3 in Ultra (54fps) .
Configuration System
Thus, depending on the configuration, the machine gets off handily. Without difficulties? Not so sure, because it compensates for its performance by a significant release of heat. And if we can not blame the ventilation system, relatively innovative, the fault is however on the chassis.
This conducts heat over its entire surface, so that the keyboard can quickly become relatively hot at high performance. It may therefore be interesting to use an additional external ventilation solution to avoid the feeling of discomfort for the most intense parts.
On the processor side, the Intel Core i7-9750H as well as the Intel Core i7 Family with their 6 cores are formidable in use and do not fail to confer speed and responsiveness to the computer. However, as Les Numériques points out in their dedicated test, it is necessary to use the Synapse software. Then to switch the processor from “balanced” to “creator” to observe an increase in performance, with a rate at 3.3GHz. against 2.9GHz for the default mode.
This is not necessarily the point that convinced us the most. Listening is indeed not very generous: the midrange, bass and bass thus have a significant range than on other devices of similar configuration. The design convinces us, on the other hand, more, since the manufacturer decides to place the speakers in frontdirectly. In order to enjoy sound directed directly to the user.
An interesting choice, even if it does not allow to benefit from an exceptional rendering. The output power being however important, you can amply compensate in installation an external audio solution, such as a hi-fi or portable speaker. Which will allow you to compensate at the same time the low range of sound frequencies for the mediums and the bass.

Nomadic or sedentary use?
Let’s get it right a gaming PC is virtually dedicated to home use. Associating it with a portable format therefore represents a challenge that Razer succeeds relatively well here. With a reasonable weight of 2kg, it still carries a diet of nearly 700g. In short, for carrying in a satchel over a long distance this is not necessarily ideal but a backpack will do the trick. Likewise, depending on the duration of your trip, you will not necessarily have to take the power supply with you.
The autonomy of 6.30 hours on average is frankly admirable for a gaming laptop, for classic Wi-Fi use. Internet browsing / optimal brightness. On the other hand, this drops if the refresh rate of your screen goes to 144Hz (against 60Hz). In which case you can count about thirty minutes less for autonomy.
Obviously, in games, you can not expect a monster outfit, although this obviously depends on the resources that the game in question requires. For maximum performance, allow a maximum of 1 hour to 1:30 of play. In other words, avoid playing on battery power, except for the most economical games! Note, moreover, that it is possible for you to boost it. By reducing the brightness or by switching to “Airplane mode”, for example, you can expect an autonomy of more than 10 hours.
Our final opinion on the Razer Blade 15
If Razer is establishing itself as one of the most popular manufacturers in the business. It’s not for nothing and this model proves it to us without question. It dazzles us in all its variants, from the Advanced to the Base Model. Offering various solutions allowing to modulate both the components and the price. If this turns out to be high, let us note at the same time that the quality of construction as much as the performances justify it.
Especially in a portable format, more expensive than the fixed equivalent for the same components, because requiring a microphone specific construction. Comfortable, it makes you want to use it both at home and outside. Which it allows to a certain extent thanks to its autonomy. There are still some possible improvements, especially with regard to heat conduction more than the cooling system. Which is successful as well as the quality of the speakers. Do not hesitate to compose with a speaker: the output power allows you to “spit out the decibels”!
At the end of 2016, Logitech launched a mouse dedicated to professional gamers. Simply called “Pro” (initially “Pro Gaming” and also called “G Pro”). A mouse unfortunately sold at a high price (79.99 €) despite a simple design and embedded technologies already proven by the Swiss manufacturer.
Never mind, Logitech has decided to decline this mouse in a more affordable version ($40). The G203 Prodigy, which does not ultimately have much to envy its big sister.
Good Gaming Mouse
A good gaming mouse can easily cost north of $ 100, but Logitech is targeting budget-conscious people today with its latest gaming mouse entry, which costs just $ 40. The Logitech G203 Lightsync may be cheap, but it certainly doesn’t skimp on features.
In addition to offering six fully programmable buttons, the “Gaming Grade” sensor can be adjusted between 200 and 8,000 DPI, allowing per-game adjustment if required. Best of all, the G203 is compatible with the Logitech G Hub app, which lets you save up to five presets.
Buttons for Logitech G203
The main left and right mouse buttons are equipped with a proprietary “Logitech G Button Tension System” metal spring which is intended to provide a consistent click experience throughout the life of the mouse. And as the name suggests, the G203 features the Lightsync RGB lighting system, enabling mouse-driven light shows using 16.8 million colors.
At $ 40, it’s a good starting point for anyone to get into PC gaming. Logitech has configured the G203 to work with no modifications needed until you are ready to do so.
It’s also highly compatible, working with Windows 7, 8, and 10, as well as macOS 10.10 or later and Chrome OS. Finally, there are two color options: white and black, the USB cable is 2.1 meters long. Which should be enough for any configuration,
Ergonomics
At first glance, it’s hard to find any differences between the G203 Prodigy and the G Pro. The shell is identical, made of plastic with a grainy coating to avoid fingerprints, the finish is just as neat and the mouse still seems robust.
Only the cable changes, since that of the Pro is braided when that of the G203 is sheathed. The latter is nevertheless quite flexible and does not seem particularly less solid. In short, it is not in terms of design or ergonomics that the two mice stand out.
We also emit the same criticisms of the G203, that is to say that if its ambidextrous shape seems interesting for left-handers, the presence of buttons only on the left edge significantly reduces the interest of this mouse for this fringe. users.
Of course, this avoids involuntary activations for right-handed people, but one could have imagined a different arrangement of the buttons or a system of removable buttons as on the G900 to avoid these inconveniences. Alas, left-handed players will not look more to the G203 than to the G Pro.
Handling For Logitech G203
The handling is not without reproach either. Indeed, if the plastic is not unpleasant in the hand, it remains relatively slippery, especially on the edges, which can make lifting and rapid movements a little tricky.
Fortunately, the small size of the G203 (116.6 x 62.2 x 38.2 mm), its low mass (85 g, or 2 g more than the G Pro) and the inclination of its edges allow a good maneuverability.
As long as you hold the mouse firmly enough, there is no contraindication to using it in low sensitivity, for example, even if you tend to prefer non-slip coatings on the edges to avoid any risk . Small mouse requires, we prefer to use it with the fingertips or as a claw. Only small hands can put all or part of the palm on it.
Comfort Mouse for G203
The G203 therefore aims above all for a certain nervousness rather than comfort. And this can be seen right down to the main click buttons. Very sensitive, they also benefit from the tension system that Logitech uses on its gaming mice since the G900. A small spring keeps the button contactor on that of the switch to improve the consistency of the click and its responsiveness.
If the G203 does benefit from Omron switches, like the G Pro. These are only guaranteed for 10 million activations (20 for the G Pro).
The two slice buttons are also quite convincing, producing a fairly sharp click. Their small size, however, makes them less accessible than those of mice like the G403. The click of the dial is also of good quality and tastes good not to be too hard. Finally, the last button located above the wheel is used to change the sensitivity of the mouse on the fly. If it is not very accessible, we reach it despite everything without twisting our fingers too much.
For its part, the wheel is very good for the game, with its notches sufficiently well marked. No horizontal scrolling on the other hand, it is about a wheel all that there is of more basic. Mouse for gamers requires, here we can not escape the single-zone RGB backlighting which illuminates both the brand’s G logo and a small border at the base of the mouse.
It has no function apart from aesthetics and will therefore be content to brighten up the offices of those who appreciate multicolored lights. This backlight is fortunately not disturbing in use, the hand largely covering the illuminated areas. It is also possible to deactivate it.
Precision
The biggest difference between G203 and G Pro is indeed in the innards of the mouse, in particular at the level of the sensor. Exit the Pixart PMW3366, make way for a home sensor called “Mercury”. Still of optical type, this one displays inferior technical characteristics: maximum acceleration supported of 25 g. Operation at speeds of 5.08 m / s and adjustable sensitivity from 200 to 8000 dpi.
This is still enough to satisfy the players. very few of them being the most nervous capable of exceeding such speeds. Even while performing the ample and rapid movements required to play in very low sensitivity.
The same goes for the maximum sensitivity, largely sufficient to go so far as to meet the expectations of those who use several Ultra HD screens.
In practice, it is therefore difficult to fault this Mercury sensor, the difference with the PMW3366 being fairly maintained. We can barely notice a very slightly better feeling of fluidity with the Pixart sensor or the Hero sensor of the latest Logitech mice. But this is really not significant. In any case, we did not find any fault in acceleration or stability during our tests.
Regarding the recognition of surfaces. If it is always necessary to avoid glass and other surfaces that are too shiny or transparent with an optical sensor. we have not detected any particular problem here with fabric or plastic mouse pads, or even with our slightly satin desk. The G203’s sensor seems to behave as well as the G Pro’s.
Logitech Assistant Software
Logitech’s Video Game Assistant software, common to the manufacturer’s various gaming peripherals. Allows you to create multiple usage profiles to automatically adapt settings to stored applications.
For each profile, it is thus possible to change the assignment of the keys and to set up to five levels of sensor sensitivity. The backlight can also be changed to take advantage of different light effects.
Finally, an option makes it possible to optimize the precision of the sensor according to the surface on which the mouse is used.
STRONG POINTS
Compact and light.
Pleasant handling, well-placed buttons.
Convincing optical sensor.
Responsive buttons.
Integrated memory.
Robust design.
WEAK POINTS
Rather intended for right-handed people despite its symmetrical shape (buttons only on the left edge).
Dial without side buttons.
Slippery coating.
CONCLUSION
Despite the use of a sensor that is less swift than that of the G Pro, the G203 Prodigy is doing with honors. Above all, its half price makes it much more attractive for players looking for a small, lively and robust mouse, particularly suitable for FPS and Moba.
